CLRC TO MEET ON FEBRUARY 8TH AT 6:30 PM

February 5, 2011

by John Kiljan

Despite a forecast of snow and a high temperature of 17°F on Tuesday, the Citizens for a Livable Ralston Community (CLRC) still plans to hold its first general meeting at the Arvada Community Food Bank on February 8th at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be informal, and all community members and friends of the community are welcome to attend.

This will be the first chance for the members and supporters to meet face-to-face, to collectively decide which community issues are most important to us and to see if there is likely to be enough support to make the CLRC a viable neighborhood association.

If you are interested, please show up. Our first meeting may be the most important our group has — and it may be our last. If too few attend the meeting, we may decide to disband our two-month old organization. If we are overwhelmed by supporters, there is no limit to what we can accomplish to make central Arvada a better place to live.

The Arvada Community Food Bank is located at 8555 W. 57th Avenue at the site of the old Arvada library. We’ll meet in the west wing Credit Union Community Room, but entry will be through the front door of the building on the south side. We hope to be done by 8:30 p.m.

Could you please reschedule your community meeting, this time on a night when more people can show up? Tuesday (Feb. 8) was a lousy night to be going to a meeting for many of the more eldery people who are interested in what is happening in their neighborhood. Thank you.

Monday 14 Feb ’11 –Hello Kate, I just saw your message tonight. We came within a cat’s whisker of doing just what you suggested when the weather forecast the night before was for 11″ of snow, high winds and bitter cold. But considering that our CLRC volunteer, Warren Miller, had already distributed about 350 fliers for us and that it takes about a month to reschedule a meeting, T.O. and decided to go ahead anyway and see who would show up.

I needed a ride myself since I can’t drive in weather like that. Twenty-one people did indeed show up and the discussion was pretty useful. In a couple of days I’ll write up notes about what was said for you and others who couldn’t make it to read. If you don’t want to wait, just call me at 303-423-9875.

Also, I think T.O. is planning another general meeting sooner rather than later. If you are signed up for notices, you’ll be sure to get the announcement for the next meeting.

      –John

Thanks for the info, John. I understand the logistics of trying to set up meetings, especially in winter, but “braving the elements” meant some folks simply were not able to come. A follow-up meeting which includes a review and a chance to comment on the initial meeting would be welcome.

And thanks also for posting the notes from the first meeting.
