Beware! Scammers are using a tragedy to steal money from Arvada residents.
The bogus callers are asking residents to donate to a fund created to help two Arvada firefighters injured in a blaze at a home in the 6500 block of Union Street on April 3, 2011.
It was brought to the attention of the fire department when a woman was contacted on the phone by a person stating they represented a firefighters’ foundation and were collecting monetary donations. They gave a legitimate address but it is a mail-receiving store and not the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Foundation
While there is a fund to help the firefighters, no one from the Arvada Fire Protection District or the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Foundation will contact you directly to donate to this cause.
If you would like to donate to help the firefighters, here is a legitimate organization to process the funds:
Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Foundation
ATTN: Arvada Fire Fighters
