ARVADA RECOGNIZED FOR INNOVATION IN WEB 2.0 TECHNOLOGIES

Arvada, CO . . . . Public Technology Institute (PTI) and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have recognized the City of Arvada as one of 17 city, county, and state governments considered leaders in the innovative application of Web 2.0 technologies and civic/social media tools to achieve impressive results in citizen engagement, government accountability, and operational efficiencies.

Other recognized entities include the cities of New York, NY; Santa Monica, CA; and Richland, WA; and the states of California, New York, and Texas.

Used effectively, Web 2.0 and civic/social media encourage citizens to take a more active role in local and state government. They provide a platform to streamline government communications and services through knowledge bases, access to networked resources, real-time data communications and reporting, wireless access, multi-media delivery, integrated self-service options, location-based services and cross-agency information sharing.

Following almost a year of research, PTI developed selection criteria for specific tools, goals, participation rates, system integration, standards and policies, interoperability, data access and sharing, channel coordination and performance metrics.

The winning applications represent diverse communities and a range of Web 2.0 applications, including excellent uses, cross-coordination and functionality for Facebook, Twitter, eTown Halls, Mashups and Mapping, Citizen Service Request Portals, Mobile Applications, Live Web Chats, Multi-media Sharing, News and Media Portals and Subscriptions and Alerts, targeted to residents, visitors, businesses and employees.

Created by and for cities and counties, the not-for-profit Public Technology Institute promotes innovation and collaboration for thought-leaders in government, and advances the use of technology to improve the management and delivery of services to the citizen. Information on the program and the winners can now be found on the PTI website: http://www.pti.org/index.php/ptiee1/more/723/
