House District 27 covers most of our CLRC neighborhoods. Last July we posted a campaign press release from Democratic House District 27 candidate Tim Allport. It’s time to even things up. At that time we told Mr Allport that we’d be inviting his Republican opponent, incumbent Libby Szabo, to have us post her campaign press release as well. We now have that, and it’s copied here. And below that readers can find an easy link to Ms Szabo’s campaign website and one for Mr Allport as well.
Just a reminder — our neighborhood association, Citizens for a Livable Ralston Community, does not endorse candidates for public office. However, we sometimes interview candidates on issues of local interest and forward on their press releases.
We also need to have short a follow-up note for the candidate forum that we announced last week. The forum was hosted by the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County and held last Thursday at the Arvada City Hall. Unfortunately, the League moderator, Wendy Brockman, had to tell the attendees that candidate Szabo was not able to attend because of a family emergency. In all, three of the major candidates, Sias, Szabo and Ramirez did not attend the forum. Because of that, the League and KATV-8 cancelled their plans for televising the event as well.
You can read the Arvada Press’ coverage of what did happen at the forum by going to page 8 of the paper’s last edition or by following this link:

ARVADA, Colorado (October 9, 2012) — Libby Szabo is a native of Jefferson County and has represented Arvada in the Colorado Legislature for one term. This fall, she is running for a second term.
Libby Szabo has become known for her common sense and commitment to champion issues of small business owners and average citizens. Libby’s desire to affect tax policy and the state’s regulatory environment inspired her to run for the Colorado Legislature in 2008. She’s been a long-time, active volunteer in state and local level issues.
Libby Szabo is a graduate of Wheat Ridge High School, which is the same school district that taught her children. Libby and her husband, Denes, have been married for more than 28 years and have raised four children.
The Szabos own a family business that has been in operation for more than 40 years in Arvada. As a business owner and a working mother, Libby knows what it takes to stretch a tight budget and to make ends meet, both at work and at home. Particularly with her experience in the mortgage lending and financial services industry, Libby understands the impact that public policy can have on businesses and working families.
Libby Szabo believes in increasing job growth by reducing the tax burden on small businesses and eliminating bureaucratic regulations that hinder the economy. This year, Libby Szabo scored 100% on the Jefferson County Business Lobby’s scorecard and received the endorsement of the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry. Moreover, the Metro North Chamber endorsed Libby Szabo due to her “firm belief that the private sector will drive job creation and retention.”
Szabo’s voting record, and the bills she’s carried, demonstrate a commitment to sound fiscal policy, less regulation and more freedom for entrepreneurs to thrive in Colorado. She serves as the Vice-Chair of the Local Government committee and sits on the Economic and Business Development committee.
In commenting on her work, Szabo said, “I am passionate about improving the quality of life in my community. I have been humbled and honored to serve the people of Arvada the past two years and I look forward to earning their votes again this fall.”
