If you have 16 minutes to spare and you want to know what Arvada Square might look like when it is complete, you’ll want to have a look at this video. If plans go as scheduled, in another year you might not recognize the shopping center at all. Construction is scheduled to start on the part that is closest to the northeast corner of Ralston Road and Independence Street this year. But the larger Phase Two projects for the rest of the shopping center start in 2017.
The artists’ concepts for what that development might look like to a person on the street (or floating overhead) was presented to the AURA Board of Commissioners in a meeting held last Wednesday night. And it’s a stunning transformation of the old strip mall and vacant Safeway building in the Triangle. The whole area is being renamed Ralston Creek North.
As with last month’s urban renewal meeting, the presentation was preceded and followed by a lengthy discussion on this latest version of the concept plan. But this time there seemed to be general approval of the proposal outlined among the Commissioners.
The presentation was made by Tim Van Meter, the architect, and by Jim Loftus, the developer. Also sitting in on the open meeting were two members of the public and Arvada City Council member John Marriott (District 3). When the plans have been developed a little further – probably toward the end of the year – the developer will be holding public input meetings on the proposed designs.
